I remember seeing a larger quote, similar to this but attributed to a person, but I think it said "soon" rather than "end of 2008" and might not have mentioned a "bathtub". So I think its a misquote [citation needed] and slightly embellished but otherwise true
While possibly something with a low chance of happening, it was not outside the realms of possibility. But that doesn't mean the prediction was especially prophetic.
However with so many voices out there on the gossip channels, how many such predictions are made about famous people and future events. All the ones that are made and don't come true are later ignored as part of the noise of the internet. Its only when something like this happens that a search of past predictions is made, and the ones that happened to match become publicized.
